Recent scientific studies have begun to raise questions on the correlation between older fathers and their children’s abnormalities. The studies have found that babies with fathers over the age of 40 are 5.75 times as likely to be diagnosed with autism as babies fathered by men under the age of 30. The risk of schizophrenia also increases in the child as the father’s age does. The likeliness of schizophrenia for a child of a father under 25 is 1 in 141 while when the father is between the ages of 30 and 35 the risk goes up to 1 chance in 99 and increases dramatically when fathers are over the age of 50 to 1 in 47.
